Whether it’s the bold stance of platinum blonde or the warmth of honey foam; at Baby Face, there is definitely a sparkle suitable for every style.
Highlighting is the process of applying colors a few shades lighter than the hair’s own color to specific strands, not the entire hair. This process adds dimension and movement to the hair with light tones scattered in between, instead of a uniform color throughout the hair. This technique, also known as “shading” or “illuminating,” makes the hair look thicker and more voluminous while adding a fresh and energetic expression to your face.
Although a single model comes to mind when highlights are mentioned, different techniques can actually be applied depending on the desired result:
An application in thin foils extending from root to tip, providing a homogeneous brightness throughout the hair.
A variety where cooler and very light blonde tones are preferred, offering an ambitious and eye-catching look.
A refreshment process applied only to the root part when the roots of highlighted hair grow out, ensuring color integrity.
A technique that does not start from the roots as much as highlights, concentrates more on the lengths and ends of the hair, and gives a more natural and “sun-kissed” effect.
At Baby Face Hair Salon, the highlighting process begins with personalized planning. First, a hair analysis is performed; the health, natural color, and past treatments of the hair are evaluated. The blonde tone most suitable for your skin color is determined. Then, the hair is separated into thin strands, placed in foils, and professional lighteners are applied. To prevent hair damage, the highest quality lighteners are used, and the processing time is meticulously monitored. After the lightening process is finished, the hair is washed, and the “toning” (gloss) process, which is the most crucial point of highlights, begins. The toner removes unwanted orange tones from the hair and fixes that perfect tone you imagined.
Highlights are not just an aesthetic procedure but also offer practical advantages:
Volume Effect: The play of shadows created by different color tones makes fine hair look fuller and thicker.
Natural Camouflage: For people with white hair, highlights ensure that whites disappear among blonde tones, extending the time between root touch-ups.
Brightens the Face: Highlights done in the right tones soften facial features and help the skin look more vibrant.
Long-Lasting: Since the entire hair is not dyed, a sharp line does not occur when roots grow out (especially in modern techniques), which extends the usage period.
Highlights can be applied to almost every hair color and type. However, the best result is obtained by choosing tones compatible with skin color. Caramel or honey foam tones look great for brunettes, ashy blondes or golden reflections for those with brown hair, and platinum or baby blonde tones for those with fair skin. For people with excessively damaged hair, care treatments can be applied first, and hair strengthening can be awaited.
Care is important to maintain the first-day shine of your sparkling hair. Highlighted hair needs moisture, so weekly moisture masks are recommended. Additionally, the use of “purple shampoo” (silver shampoo) is essential to prevent blonde tones from turning orange over time. Highlights can be used between 3 to 6 months depending on hair growth speed. “Toning” processes done in between keep the color fresh.
For us, highlighting is not just lightening hair, but performing an art. At Baby Face Hair Salon, we use lighteners with “bond” technology that protects the hair structure. In this way, while your hair is lightened, the connective tissues are not damaged, and it retains its softness even after the procedure. Our experts answer the question “which blonde suits me?” in the most accurate way by combining it with your style and facial features.
Highlights are a more intense lightening process applied in regular strands starting from the roots of the hair to the ends. Balayage, on the other other hand, is usually a shading process applied with a freehand technique from the mid-lengths to the ends, leaving the roots more natural. Highlights offer a more distinct blondeness, while balayage provides more natural transitions.
Heavy chemicals used in the past could damage hair, but thanks to new generation lighteners and protective bond strengtheners (plex products) used today, this risk has been minimized. As Baby Face, we put hair health above everything else and perform procedures with special products that protect the hair.
The highlighting process takes between 2 to 4 hours on average, depending on the length, thickness, and desired lightness of the hair. This time includes foiling, processing, washing, toning, and blow-drying.
Chemical processes are generally not recommended in the first 3 months of pregnancy. However, from the 4th month onwards, foiled processes where chemicals do not touch the scalp (like highlights) can be done with doctor approval. Still, we definitely recommend consulting your doctor.
Since highlights are a process starting from the roots, your own main color starts to show as the hair grows. However, since highlights do not create a sharp line like solid color, root touch-up is not mandatory. Many of our customers like the natural look that occurs as roots grow out. If you are uncomfortable, you can refresh the look with just a “root highlight” process.
Pricing varies according to the density and length of your hair, the amount of lightener to be used, and extra care treatments to be performed. For the healthiest price information, we recommend coming to our salon for a free hair analysis.
Yes, highlights can be done on dark hair too. However, lightening very dark hair to platinum blonde may require a gradual process, or warmer tones (caramel, hazelnut shell) may be preferred to ensure a more natural transition. Our experts will test your hair’s durability and recommend the most suitable tone for you.
Yes, the toning (gloss) process is almost essential for a professional result. It is possible with toning to neutralize unwanted raw yellow or orange reflections that may occur in the hair after lightening and to give the hair that shiny, ashy, or baby blonde tone.
Highlighting is one of the most technical and risky procedures in hairdressing. Separating the right strands, applying the lightener evenly, and adjusting the processing time requires professionalism. Trials done at home usually result in burnt, broken hair or a spotted (patchy) color. Therefore, it must be done by an expert hairdresser.
Rather than covering white hair 100%, highlights provide excellent camouflage by hiding them among blonde strands. Your whites disappear amidst the brightness of the highlights, and thus your time between root touch-ups becomes much longer compared to solid color.
